Our Values and Faith

The Aafiyah Project is inherently an Islamic organisation with an ethos which is concordant with orthodox teachings within Islam. We believe that the teachings in the Qur’aan and the Hadeeth of The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) provide an advantageous approach to helping people who are struggling with Mental Health and Wellbeing issues.

Allaah does not burden a soul more than it can bear…

Surah Al-Baqarah Verse 286

There is no dichotomy between Islam and Mental Health, we believe that any ailment which affects a person is a trial from Allaah which will do nothing but raise that person’s rank in the sight of Allaah. The narrative and perspectives, that is taught to us from divine scripture and revelation, assist those who believe to have a positive outlook and to do what is necessary for them to get better. It is an explicit teaching in Islam for people to seek adequate treatment for anything that ails them. We at the Aafiyah Project believe in holistic treatment, where one seeks to get better biologically, psychologically, socially, and spiritually.

“There is no disease that Allah has sent down except that He also has sent down its treatment.”

~ The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ)

Our core principles require us to constantly check that we are doing things within the realms of authentic Islam, for this we have highly educated People of Knowledge (shuyookh) to refer to and verify that whatever we do or publish is sound Islamically.

We hold ourselves at the highest of standards when it comes to our work, although we are non-judgemental and open to all, we do specify that all team members conduct themselves in a respectable and correct manner in accordance with the teachings of the Qur’aan and Sunnah. Our motivation stems from the fact that we believe the Sharee’ah makes it compulsory to preserve the mind and intellect, therefore it is a collective responsibility that we work to help everyone preserve them.

None of you [truly] believes until he loves for his brother that which he loves for himself.
